The release date for Star Trek 2 has already been announced but apparently everyone has yet to know of when the movie will go into production.
Earlier this year, Zoe Saldana said that the production might start early next year. Then Bruce Greenwood said that the film had been planned to begin shooting in January 2011. However, Zachary Quinto who played as Spock gave MTV a different opinion regarding the production schedule for Star Trek 2.
"I can't wait to go back. We have a while until we're going to do another one. It probably won't be until next year at this time. I know there are sort of erroneous reports that we're going back in January — not true, as far as I know."

Screenwriters Alex Kurtzman and Robert Orci told MTV that they are making significant progress on the scripts but no hint on when will the filming starts was given except that they will focus on the other characters inn from the first film in the sequel.
In the end, nobody knows when will know when will Star Trek 2 go into production. We'll just have to wait and see.
